It’s said that the lavish apartments built into the church complex of Sant’Agnese, on Rome’s Piazza Navona, were designed at the behest of Pope Innocent X to house his mistress. A racy provenance – and killer location – for Holy Deer San Lorenzo City Lodge (sanlorenzolodges.com; from £7,600 per night), the first urban hospitality foray from former fashion executives Stefano and Giorgia Barbini, whose San Lorenzo lodge in the Dolomites and high-spec crewed catamaran, Blue Deer, have earned them an avid fan base. Stylistically, Holy Deer is a departure, exchanging breezy mountain-to-sea chic for lots of pomp and colour, from flocked wallpapers and rich-red marble to massive silk- and velvet-swathed platform beds. (And just to reiterate: location, location, location.)
