Admiring the Manhattan skyline from a boat should be a New York right of passage. This year the clever brass at the lavish, lovely Mark Hotel have a cracking vintage sailing yacht, Ventura (themarkhotel.com; half-day charter from $5,000 for two), from which to do so.

Built in the early 1920s for George Fisher Baker (chairman of the First National Bank of New York – today’s Citibank), the sleek, 19m teak and mahogany vessel is available exclusively to the hotel’s guests from July through September, and easily accommodates two dozen people. Bonus: the Jean-Georges Vongerichten-designed dinner you’ll be served – he mans the kitchens at his eponymous restaurant in the hotel.
