With the pageantry of the recent royal wedding piquing interest in fabulous fascinators and hats, Hotel Café Royal and award-winning milliner Victoria Grant have joined forces to inspire selections for the summer season. From Friday June 15 through to Tuesday July 31, guests at the Regent Street address will have special access to Grant, who will be on hand to co-create a bespoke headpiece that will be delivered to their suite upon arrival.
Clients will meet with Grant in advance of their stay – either at her Notting Hill atelier or via Skype – to discuss preferred colours and adornments, as well as measurements. Grant is a favourite of Hollywood A-listers and models including Cara Delevingne, Kate Moss and Lady Gaga – all of whom appreciate the designer’s ability to meld tradition and craftsmanship with a dash of whimsy. The results are wearable artworks that can take from two to four weeks to produce, depending on their complexity.
Grant is happy to tailor headwear to a specific outfit or occasion – whether it’s a broad-brimmed boater for Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood, or a feathered fascinator for a summer wedding. And no request is too outlandish, from floral filigree to gem-encrusted embellishments, as the milliner delights in working creatively with clients.
The experience continues when guests check into the hotel: David Chipperfield-designed suites provide stylish accommodation, and the summer escape package (priced at £1,440) includes car transfers, an array of beauty treatments in the hotel’s Akasha Holistic Wellbeing Centre and in-room breakfast – topped off, of course, by a custom-made hat.
