The former is a careful renovation of a young ladies’ hostel founded in 1926, all Spanish-colonial splendour with an extravagantly tiled pool, lush patio brimming with plants and three bars; the latter, a much-anticipated sister to NoMad in Manhattan, will live in the storied 1922 Giannini Building on the corner of 7th and Olive (as prime a downtown site as exists), and showcase a rooftop pool and – the thing Angelenos are really excited about – the first restaurant outside NYC from Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, they of legendary Eleven Madison Park.
