The festive season gets rolling in sumptuous style aboard art deco gem the Belmond British Pullman, which is travelling from central London to Canterbury (on December 1 and 14) and Salisbury (December 12, all from £392 per person) for Cathedral carolling and Christmas market shopping. The outbound journey will begin with bellinis and a three-course brunch, while a four-course table d’hôte dinner with wine pairings steams guests back into town.

The grand gothic magnificence that is England’s first cathedral will be set off by a performance by the Canterbury Singers as they belt out carols in the candlelit crypt, while in Salisbury the roof will be lifted by the Salisbury Cathedral School Choir. Afterwards, local Christmas markets will be awash with handmade gifts, seasonal treats – and the requisite holiday cheer. A cosy, champagne-fuelled feast chugs guests back to London.
