In Bangkok, another hotel is expanding into micro-brand status: 137 Pillars Suites (137pillarsbangkok.com; from $528), a slick sister to the beautiful 137 Pillars House in the cultural hub of Chiang Mai, opens this weekend across nine floors of a new tower on Sukhumvit Soi 39. There are 34 suites – each with a mini wine cellar – two restaurants and a sky bar on the roof. Particularly exciting is the small-is-beautiful spa and wellness centre, where aerial yoga and dance classes will be offered along with more conventional treatments.
