Shanghai isn’t a city that’s short on top-flight accommodation. But as of March, just one will be able to lay claim to being the only all‑villa resort in town. Capella Shanghai – Jian Ye Li (www.capellashanghai.com; prices yet to be set) marries early-20th-century Sino-French architecture – the resort has been painstakingly fitted into a walled complex of shikumen houses – with impeccable interiors by the late great Indonesian designer Jaya Ibrahim and proximity to both Ming-era gardens and the gilded shops of the Nanjing Road.

Down in Cambodia, meanwhile, one of Siem Reap’s loveliest small hotels has opened its doors again after a top-to-toe renovation: the shaded tranquillity, dreamy courtyard pool and second-storey alfresco martini bar at Belmond La Résidence d’Angkor (www.belmond.com; from £235) are all gratifyingly still present and accounted for (but with fresh faces), while the rooms have all had outdoor spaces and freestanding baths added.
