Dukes London is as ineffably British as James Bond, whose shaken-not-stirred libation of choice apocryphally originated here. A second Dukes outpost has just opened in, of all places, Dubai – though the 506 accommodations at Dukes Dubai (www.dukesdubai.com; from £215), spread across 15 floors of a gleaming palace on the Palm Jumeirah, are a clear and significant departure from its forerunner (whose foundations date to 1532). But the amenities are alluring, from the wide private beach to the indoor pool and cocktail bar on the top floor, to the traditional afternoon tea and Bond’s famous martini – served, naturally, in Dukes Bar, a large-scale replica of the original.
