When Treehotel (www.treehotel.se; from about £450) opened in northern Sweden in 2010, its six accommodations – ranging from a composite-material “UFO” hovering in the pine forest, to a Mirrorcube, more or less exactly what the name says – set new bars for originality. Opening in January is The 7th Room (from about £1,100), a new villa some 10m above the ground designed by Norwegian starchitects Snøhetta, and boasting two bedrooms, a lounge and an alfresco skygazing “net”. This, along with an elevated service push, promises to ratchet up the Treehotel experience to one that’s not just directional, but also cosseting and highly personalised.
