From the ‘cradle of humankind’ to World Cup action

Bush walks, archaeology, and a helicopter ride to Joburg matches

Just outside Johannesburg, Uncharted Africa Safari Co – of the renowned Kalahari desert-based Jack’s Camp – is getting in on the World Cup action with The Camp at the Cradle of Humankind (; from $3,500 per person, excluding transfers).

An ultra-luxe “pop-up” extravaganza, there will be a helicopter service to Joburg matches, archaeologist-led excursions to the Big Dig at Krugersdorp, bush walks with trackers from western Kalahari and, of course, the outrageously stylish appointments for which Uncharted Africa is consistently rated. (Rumour has it a block of tents has already been booked by a major NBA team.)
