An urban idyll opens in Colombia

A colonial mansion is remade as an industrial-chic inn

For an urban idyll, head to Cartagena in Colombia, where, in the heart of the Old Town, fashion designer Silvia Tcherassi has opened the Tcherassi Hotel & Spa (; from $303) in a 250-year-old colonial mansion remade as an industrial-chic inn.

Inside, original rough stone walls are married with contemporary furniture and chandeliers, suspended from 30ft ceilings in some rooms. There’s a pool on the roof, a bijou spa and a restaurant, Vera, that’s all mirrored walls and low lighting.
