Knightsbridge’s The Franklin reopens with a new look

Anouska Hempel’s neutral interiors refresh the Victorian townhouse

In London, classic English style is coming under the dynamic lens of Italian hotelier Elisabetta Fabri. The CEO and president of Florence-based Starhotels is shortly to reopen The Franklin (; from £650), tucked away in a row of Victorian townhouses facing Egerton Gardens in Knightsbridge. Having closed a few years ago upon its purchase by Fabri’s growing company (she recently acquired Florence’s Helvetia & Bristol, Siena’s Grand Hotel Continental and Rome’s venerable Hotel d’Inghilterra; watch these pages for news of vibrant rebirths), The Franklin’s new look is the work of Anouska Hempel, with the charm and chintz that formerly characterised the interiors supplanted by acres of wood flooring, a neutral palette and exquisitely measured good taste all round.
