A Roman palazzo redesign from the man behind DOM

This early-20th-century villa’s rooftop is set to be the place to be this summer

Rome-based architect Antonio Girardi put himself on the international radar in 2013 with DOM (www.domhotelroma.com; from €320), his elegant 17th-century palazzo hotel on Rome’s Via Giulia. So all eyes are on Palazzo Dama (www.palazzodama.com; from €350), which soft-opened in late winter in a patrician early-20th-century villa just off the Piazza del Popolo. Its 30 rooms and suites (example pictured) display the same design rigour that garnered DOM its kudos, but are leavened with nods to the villa’s stile Liberty provenance – a sorbet palette, profusions of chandeliers and much attention to extravagant mouldings and cornices. Given Girardi’s success in turning DOM’s ground-floor bar into one of Rome’s most popular late-night venues, we’re banking on Palazzo Dama’s rooftop terrace being the place to circulate this summer.
