Monaci delle Terre Nere (www.monacidelleterrenere.it; from £120), is a six-room, owner-run boutique hotel on the slopes of Mount Etna, Sicily. Here, contemporary interiors are mixed with accents of Brazilian art within an 18th-century building that’s still part of a 40-acre organic farm. It’s a tip-off that came via Chris Laugsch of Welcome Beyond (www.welcomebeyond.com), which focuses on a carefully curated combination of design-led hotels and villa rentals.
