C Seed is a Viennese maker of huge-scale tech stuff, mostly (but not all) for outdoor use. Its new poolside sound system is a weatherproofed speaker that rises up from its housings in the pool terrace to become pretty much the ultimate outdoor installation. They’re not the easiest product to demo – my bathtub isn’t really big enough – so I joined a press trip to Mykonos, where C Seed had them installed in a villa with a huge infinity pool.
The speakers are as magnificent as you’d expect for €37,500 (including amps). Subwoofers are extra – a lot extra, if you were to opt for the system’s most complex 10-speaker surround-sound configuration. They are so powerful at full stretch that, even though we were hundreds of metres from the neighbours, C Seed was only prepared to let it play to its full potential for a few minutes. Or to put it another way: listening to Fleetwood Mac’s ”Tusk” (surely one of the greatest pop songs ever and a great test for a music system) at sonic-boom volume from an infinity pool on a Greek island is how I’d rather like to spend my next life, even if it doesn’t happen again in this one.
