You may disregard these new Pioneer earbuds if you already have an iPhone 8 or X and – a big and – you have also bought a third-party wireless charging mat for it. If, however, you are one of the millions with an iPhone 7 – the first that came without separate headphone and charging sockets – and spend hours at work with the headphones plugged in for calling, music, news or all three, you will know that there’s almost no way of charging it at the same time.
Well, with the Pioneer Rayz Plus, there is. Rayz Plus are decent quality, if not hifi, earbuds – with noise-cancelling to boot. But the real selling point is a Lightning connector jack on the cable that enables you to plug in and charge the phone while using the headphones. It’s a modest product with a surprisingly immodest price tag, but it’s a unique and clever move by Pioneer, which has really spotted a gap in the market.
