For those thinking about skiing, here’s a superb new ski (and surf) Android watch from Nixon, a brand rapidly emerging as one of the coolest in sports smartwatches

The Mission is big and bold, and frankly looks a little pleased with itself design-wise (it supposedly comes in 44,000 variations when you aggregate all the colour, bezel and strap choices), but it does the serious stuff well, being water-resistant to an impressive 100m. It’s built from 316L surgical-grade stainless steel, so you are far more likely to break than it is, and the AMOLED screen is of the best quality.

But Nixon is especially proud of the Mission’s microphone, which is waterproofed with a Gore-Tex membrane and allows you to shout at your watch to read your emails or bring up apps to monitor your progress while you’re schussing down the slopes. Skiers and surfers alike will be excited to know (me in west London, a bit less so) that the Mission will tell you the moment the conditions in your favourite pre-programmed spots are peaking, so you can rush to the slopes/break post-haste to catch them.
