Ten of the top things to see and do in Qatar

Souq Waqif

For an authentic taste of traditional Arab street life and local architecture, nothing can beat a wander through the bustling lanes of Souq Waqif. Besides the souvenir bargains on offer, it is a lively dining and entertainment spot, ideal for people-watching. The Gold Souq is nearby.

Doha Corniche

Take a stroll along this waterfront promenade and park, stretching the length of Doha Bay and providing a vehicle-free green oasis in the city centre.

Museum of Islamic Art

Visit this magnificent collection covering 14 centuries of the finest art and artefacts from across the Islamic world. It is housed in a dramatic IM Pei-designed building on the Corniche and ranks as a top international cultural landmark.

City Highlights Tours

An organised tour is ideal for visitors with limited time to spare or seeking an overview of Doha’s attractions. Local tour operators offer both standard city tours taking in all the main sights, as well as tailor-made tours catering to their clients’ interests.

Desert Safaris

An off-road desert safari by 4x4 is an experience not to be missed. Besides a heart-stopping ride over the precipitous dunes, safaris may include camel-riding, sand-boarding or driving a quad bike, followed by a moonlit Bedouin-style barbecue under the stars.

Dhow Cruises

Cruises aboard a traditional wooden Arab dhow are another extremely popular visitor experience. Day and evening sightseeing excursions, including a meal, can be arranged through local tour operators.

Katara Cultural Village

Katara is ideal for a relaxing day of culture and entertainment. Its performance venues stage plays, concerts, film festivals and much more. Recreational options include a well-tended public beach with watersports, restaurants and cafés.

The Pearl-Qatar

A man-made island symbolising the ultimate in elegance, The Pearl offers fine dining, Mediterranean-style yacht-lined-waterfront walks, stylish cafés and an array of boutiques.

Khor Al Adaid

Some 60km south of Doha, Khor Al Adaid, also known as the “Inland Sea”, is an impressive natural wonder. One of the few places in the world where the sea encroaches deep into the heart of the desert, it is best visited as part of an organised desert safari.

Al Zubarah

A Unesco World Heritage site 100km northwest of Doha, Al Zubarah comprises an immaculately restored fort and surrounding archaeological site with the remains of what was one of the Gulf’s most important pearl-diving and trading ports in the 18th century.
