“Mountbatten Pink”, as it is now known, was introduced by Lord Mountbatten in order to camouflage second world war navy ships against torpedo attacks in hazy-grey/pink dusk and dawn light. This season, the colour is taken up by Vivienne Westwood for alternative military-inspired clothing. The dusty-mauve shade is used for organic cotton knitwear and sporty pieces including knitted polos (£250), hoodies (£385) and joggings (£260).

Elsewhere, I like the handsome double-breasted blazer (£1,040) with dark- or light-olive broad-stripe peak lapels – inspired by Moroccan army uniforms.
