Certain retailers come to define their locations. In a relatively short space of time, Mats Klingberg’s Trunk has made Chiltern Street in Marylebone synonymous with luxurious, contemporary men’s style. It’s the place to go to find offbeat European and Japanese labels, the perfect navy blazer, the ultimate weekend bag or a pair of driving shoes. But the store has spread its wings much further afield, and this month officially opens in Zürich (following a soft launch) – its first store outside the UK. “We are in Seefeld, right next to the lake,” says Klingberg. “It is primarily a residential area, similar to Marylebone, so it felt like the right place to be for Trunk. I want it to be a bit of a destination in a quieter area, away from the busier town centre of Paradeplatz.”
As with his London spaces, a significant amount of the stock at the new store will be exclusive to the region, including Klingberg’s own Trunk label, which includes a growing range of product, from flat lambskin card cases (SFr140, about £105), crafted in the Spanish leather-making region of the Cádiz Mountains, to zipped tote bags (about £340). There are also Trunk’s George chinos in super-soft washed cotton with a slight stretch.
The new store will also have a selection of Lyn Harris Perfumer H fragrances featuring world-exclusive bottles and packaging (about £360-£460). “With Perfumer H, Lyn’s focus has been on her own store in Marylebone,” says Klingberg. “In the hope of being able to bring a little part of Marylebone with me to Zürich, I was over the moon when Lyn agreed to curate a small collection of fragrances and candles for the Swiss shop.” The Perfumer H for Trunk collection is made up of five fragrances (Angelica, Cologne, Patchouli, Ink and Vetiver) and three candles (Dandelion, Orange Blossom and Ash).
