Hermès’ archive Volynka leather, once used for carriage upholstery, boots, book covers and bags, has been relaunched for a range of accessories including an exceptionally good‑looking bag, the Haut à Courroies (price on request), and the Ulysse notebook cover (from £190). The leather’s surface has a rugged, cross-hatch texture, a remarkable depth of colour, and a smoky, woody scent said to repel insects, each achieved by working with a traditional English tannery that uses techniques from the 1920s.
