Effortless sartorial style à la James Bond in Casino Royale is on the cards as the British heritage brand Sunspel unveils its Ian Fleming collection. Created in collaboration with the author’s estate, the spring-ready range of lightweight knits, polo shirts, cardigans, crewneck jumpers and trousers pays homage to 007’s debonair aesthetic and to Fleming, who was a fan of the luxury menswear brand.
The collection of classic, understated separates in finest Sea Island cotton takes its design cues from 1950s resortwear, which is reinterpreted with Sunspel’s signature pared-back style. The pieces are wearable but suitably luxurious, as one has come to expect from the label: from fine-gauge crewneck jumpers (£185) in shades of sky, light navy, samphire and magnesium, which are beautifully made and ideal for layering, to slim-cut polo shirts (£185) in muted blues and grey that make for a natty weekend wardrobe. And for dapper dressers in search of subtle flair, the range includes short-sleeve camp-collar shirts (£195) finished with mother-of-pearl buttons, while a tailored cotton dress shirt (£215) offers a fresh, simple take on crisp, white poplin. The slim-fit design features smart cuffs and removable collar stays for a more relaxed look.
Completing the collection is a pair of tropical Italian wool drawstring trousers (£195) in deep navy that is both breathable and wrinkle-resistant. The choice of fabric is particularly fitting, as it is mentioned by Fleming when preparing Bond for one of his many explosive escapades. Snap up pieces from both Sunspel and Mr Porter.
