I heard it through the grapevine (or maybe the Ivy vine…) that Ralph Lauren wants to reassert his claim on preppy style. A super-refined take on Ivy League is particularly well expressed in a black “sweater” blazer (£1,520) without padding that feels more like a tailored cardigan, and whose high-notch, slim lapels lend it a 1960s Kennedy-cool accent. A first-class look is the striped shirt (£350) and wide-stripe “rep” tie (£170) styled with a collar pin, and paired with immaculate, sharp cotton chinos (£480) and a generously cut double-breasted blazer (£1,300) in a thicker-than-usual wool serge. And Mr Lauren has professed to be particularly keen on the Glenn check shawl-collar evening jacket (£4,500) in tie‑weight silk drill. It’s offered with black wool/silk trousers (£595), but looks fabulous worn with battered blue jeans too.
