A great heritage cloth, Bard, has recently been revived for Paul Smith by Scottish mill Lovat. The fabric was abandoned decades ago because of its complex production process, but is now available in a Prince of Wales check, Air Force blue and a daring red. It has exceptionally high resilience, beautiful draping qualities and a robust dry handle. Customers at Sir Paul’s Westbourne House store can order a bespoke suit (from £3,900) in the fabric. To pair with it, there’s also an exciting shirt service (£350) offering archive Smith cloths paired with brilliant new one-off and typically eccentric buttons.
