Some striking new styles have emerged at Grenson, most recently ones that combine exaggerated welted soles (a signature of the brand and a very British conceit that involves stitching together up to three layers of leather) with a bulbous toe for the brand’s premium, handmade in the UK G:One line. Enter the Dermot, a five-eyelet Derby shoe (from £410) with a clean vamp and chunky style, in black calfskin or pickled walnut high-shine leather. Douglas (from £425) is similar but has a double-top-stitched toecap and comes in black or pickled walnut, while Desmond is a handsome seven-eyelet burnished-leather boot (£500), in pickled walnut, with the same cap. These work particularly well with (increasingly fashionable) wide‑leg trousers and jeans.
