An online shrine to stylish socks, Nice Laundry does patterns, plain and personalisation with equal élan. The colourful, easy-to-use site has a Build Your Own Box option that can be filled with pairs of users’ individual choosing. The designs might include bold, graphic prints bearing chevrons, polka dots or patriotic patterns (such as the Freedom pair featuring the stars and stripes), while the styles range from traditional athletic varieties made of Hydra and Spandex to proper cotton dress socks or no-show numbers for laidback loafers. A small box ($59) contains six pairs, the medium ($89) holds 12 and the large ($109) takes 18.

The latest addition to the US-based site (shipping is also available to the UK, Australia and Canada) is the Personal Edition: Luxe service ($45 for three pairs) that allows users to customise their footgear with monograms, logos or sports symbols. But for those who want dapper without the decision making, Nice Laundry offers ready-made boxes such as the bestselling Exec Summer Edition ($49 for six pairs) – restrained designs in cotton with Microlast technology (to minimise shrinkage) and Everknit reinforced heels and toes – or the Dreamer VIII ($49 for six pairs), which includes lavender stripes and vibrant yellow dots.

Customers can regularly update their socks appeal too, thanks to Nice Laundry’s subscription service. The Quarterly option ($49) provides six pairs of dress socks plus one special edition, all seasonally appropriate, while the Annual package ($99) sends out a total of 16 pairs of dress socks, two no-show liners and a special edition.

In addition to all this graphic sock goodness, Nice Laundry is doing its bit to support the environment and communities in need. US customers can send their old socks to the company’s affiliated recycling facility (using a prepaid label), where after washing and sorting the best garments will be sent off to find new owners, while the others will be recycled and turned into textiles or insulation fibre. Nice by nature, as well as by name.
