Punk rock and safari style should by all rights be at odds, yet Louis Vuitton’s mohair knits and tartan trousers – the former with abstract animal-skin prints and the latter adorned with zips and straps – came together brilliantly in the summer 2017 collection. Artistic director Kim Jones looked to his childhood in Africa for inspiration; the springbok, giraffe and impala patterns used on vibrant mohair knits (from £610) made the punk-inspired checks (£650) feel entirely fresh. The tartan jackets and trousers (£2,400 and £650), many in sun-bleached Maasai shades, were teamed with more bush patterns in the form of animal-skin-print silk-mix coats (£1,500) and silk shirts (£900). Exceptional pieces include a zigzag-design blouson (£8,200) in LV-monogrammed toile, which is hand-braided and extremely light; and a croc-embossed nubuck jacket (price on request).
