Man-made compound soles have been getting much attention from smart designers in recent seasons. New from Church’s Northampton factory is the Renwick boot (£360) with a rugged Dainite rubber sole. Strappingly British, with handsome brogue punching, the boot is at once eminently sturdy, super-light and flexible. There’s also a lovely fumé, hand-applied burnish to the highly polished calfskin upper, which is as different from the sole’s moulded sporty capability as night is from day. The Renwick is available in two colours: tobacco and Baltic blue.
