The sophisticated men’s destination outfitter has been given a new, modern lease of life of late. Cutting-edge stores offer grooming services and contemporary casualwear alongside more traditional tailoring expertise, in reassuringly wood-panelled, timber-floored environments. The new Hackett concept store, which officially launched two weeks ago in Spitalfields, is a prime example of this: everything for the modern man under one roof, right down to a billiard table and basement lounge.

If the trappings – oversized luggage trunks, glass and wood cabinets, elegant mirrors, vintage taxidermy and tweed dressing room curtains – suggest something carefully art-directed to be old fashioned, then the clothing and accessories are anything but. Stock has been curated from across the Hackett lines to create a range that is decidedly fashion-forward. It’s all quite east London, but still never anything less than wearable. “Hackett Mayfair” tailoring offers the ideal business wardrobe, while the “Modern Prep” casual pieces, including rugby and tartan shirts, quilted jackets and cricket V-necked jumpers, present the perfect weekend attire.

As well as capsule wardrobes for office and street, there is an in-store branch of Murdock London, the classic-with-a-twist barber. Using its own range of all-British skin and haircare products, Murdock at Hackett provides haircuts, wet shaves and beard trims.
