The Main Fountain Garden at Philadelphia’s Longwood Gardens will once again dazzle guests this May with its grand horticulture, hand-carved Italian limestone and more than 1,700 fountain jets dancing to music. America’s most visited public garden, Longwood is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the return of its iconic landmark.
To mark this momentous occasion, Longwood Gardens will launch a Summer of Spectacle, a huge programme of tours, concerts and events running from May 27 to September 30. “The revitalisation of our iconic Main Fountain Garden is one of the largest projects in Longwood’s history and to share its return with our guests is incredibly exciting,” said Paul B Redman, Longwood Gardens president and CEO. “Our legendary Main Fountain Garden is back and more spectacular than ever.”
The Main Fountain Garden will once again dazzle visitors with its grand allées, hand-carved Italian limestone, undulating boxwood and incredible fountain displays. The fountain displays use cutting-edge 21st-century technology to orchestrate 1,719 jets and streams. Guest will see them dance, spin and soar to great heights, creating stunning basketweave patterns and other unexpected forms. The fountains perform daily, but on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, hours are extended for the illuminated fountain displays that glow in an infinite combination of colours, choreographed to music, with spectacular results. On six special evenings, Longwood adds fireworks to its illuminated fountain performances to create the ultimate garden spectacle. Prepare to be astounded.
