Though only a tiny percentage of current car sales are plug-in vehicles, the latest line in luxury housing is already thoughtfully incorporating suitable sockets. In Miami, for example, the Palazzo del Sol (www.palazzodelsol.com; from $6.5m to $35m, pictured), the first new construction on exclusive Fisher Island for nearly a decade, has reinvented high-powered living for the 21st century. Here, alongside a cinema, a designer playroom, a hair and make-up salon and professional fur storage, the developers are planning dedicated EV-charging circuits for 50 per cent of the parking spaces. Other locals following suit include Jade Signature (www.jadesignature.com; from $2m to over $26m) and 1 Hotel & Homes South Beach (homes.1hotels.com/southbeach; from $1,380,900).
