Gubi is already an internationally renowned brand (founded in 1976, it is one of Denmark’s leading manufacturers of furniture, lighting and interior accessories), but, thanks to the recent launch of an e-store, it is now easier than ever for customers to access its wares. And what beautiful wares they are.
Ranging from its own innovative creations, such the Bonaparte sofa designed by founder Gubi Olsen and his wife, Lisbeth, in the 1980s (second picture, €6,301) to reissues of classic design icons such Jacques Adnet’s leather-framed mirror (from €539) and Barba Corsini’s 1950s Pedrera Collection, which was originally designed for Gaudí’s La Pedrera building in Barcelona (Pedrera Coffee Table, first picture, €579), these are pieces characterised by fuss-free modernity.
Gubi.com is a big site (eight departments, 17 sub-departments, plus options to search by colour or designer), but then shopping for serious furniture should take time. And when you click on a piece you like (in my case, the Grasshopper Floor Lamp, €665), up comes a crystal-clear image and enough background information to make anyone feel confident to buy direct “from the screen”.
