The people behind Idyll Home only sell things they love and since the things they love most are new and unique home accessories, their e-store is a must-visit place for seasoned shoppers in search of something a little different.
Of course, not everything on sale in the 10 departments – which range from “Living” to “Garden and Outdoors” via “Kids” and “New Arrivals” – is a revelation, but even my initial dash through the site resulted in two exciting new discoveries. The first was a witty range of ceramic lights inspired by traditional fabric shades (Fold lampshade, first picture, £49), while the second was John Robshaw’s boldly decorative-with-a-subtle-Indian-vibe cushion collection, including the Moth cushion (second picture) at £59. (The blurb explains that Robshaw designs his cushions in New York before sending them off to be block printed in India, which explains the cross-cultural aesthetic.)
Even the more familiar pieces are far from run of the mill. I have seen button-back Slipper chairs and Hamman bath towels before, of course, but rarely of this chic simplicity. (Grey velvet, button-back Slipper chair, £395; Hamman bath towel, £16.)
