Gilded Age glamour has been revived in the shape of a glitzy new glassware collection, launching on July 15. The limited edition St Regis Midnight Supper Gift Set by Saint-Louis ($2,300), the result of a collaboration between the storied hotel and the Hermès-owned cristallerie (the oldest glassware manufacturer in Europe), is available exclusively at Barneys New York and at St Regis Hotels worldwide.
Working in jewel tones ranging from aubergine to a subtle smoky grey, artisans at Saint-Louis’ rural Moselle workshop looked to the iconic hotel’s events both past and present when designing the set. “Midnight suppers” have been a hallmark of the St Regis New York since it opened in 1904, and Saint-Louis pieces have featured prominently at many a dazzling evening event. The new collection took its cues from a spirit of celebration – and specifically the famous occasion when matriarch Caroline Astor invited 400 of her nearest and dearest to a multicourse “opera afterparty” at the hotel.
Each of the opulent new hand-cut crystal sets features a mix of five classic and contemporary shapes. Among the multifaceted goblets are the Amethyst Tommy cocktail glass, the Stella American water glass, the Les Endiablés bubble glass, an Amethyst Bubbles hock glass and a stunning Amethyst Excess champagne flute.
“Saint-Louis has often set the table for St Regis – from Fashion Week events in New York to luxurious crystal-laden picnics in London’s Hyde Park, to one-of-a-kind midnight suppers around the world,” says Saint-Louis’ CEO Jérôme de Lavergnolle. “We are honoured to continue this relationship and to provide guests and fans of both brands with this exclusive grouping of our beautiful pieces.”
Here’s to creating midnight-supper memories at home.
