The e-store by Belgium-based interior studio AM Designs was borne out of an age-old problem – how to successfully introduce new furniture into a home so that it works with the existing interior. “We wanted the store to act as a point of inspiration, and to give ideas for how to integrate a new sofa or piece of lighting into your home – for example, which Carl Hansen chair will work with the sofa you already have? We’re about giving ideas – for architects and designers as well as our private customers from Singapore to Houston.”
AM Designs creates beautifully pared-down and calming contemporary schemes with a rustic-y antique spin at their core. Recent projects include a property in Provence, plus houses in The Hamptons and London, and its new online offering brings together the “designs within the designs”. There’s the elegantly lined leather sling Saxe chair (€1,499) from By Lassen, E15’s simple but refined Habibi side table (€672) and Roll and Hill’s oval Halo pendant lamp (€8,350), as well as AM Designs’ own furniture range, such as the classic linen-covered Stephanie sofa (€3,828). Antiques are also featured in the mix, including earthy vases and jugs (from about €70), as well as on-trend Danish midcentury armchairs (for example, a pair of US-175 chairs for Dux, €3,100) and rustic milk stools (from €110).
The edit is frankly faultless, but it’s the way the items are presented that brings them to life and takes the pain out of creating a cohesive aesthetic for your home. In the Studio’s Projects section are recent, real homes featuring items to buy from the store; Kaare Klint’s iconic 1933 safari chair for Carl Hansen (€927), for example, is seen to super-stylish effect in the Provençal country house. It's a welcome helping hand to those “will it work with…?” style dilemmas.
