Gourmands will rejoice on Thursday July 9 when The Grand Gelinaz! Shuffle – an unprecedented collaboration between 37 of the world’s most talented, risk-taking chefs – takes place in restaurants from Britain to Brazil. For one night only, culinary creatives including Alain Ducasse, Albert Adrià (third picture), Magnus Nilsson and René Redzepi (second picture) will be assigned to each other’s kitchens to serve an eight-course celebration of regional cuisine.
The idea is certainly ambitious and will leave diners stunned by its logistics: the chefs will arrive at their host restaurant three days before the event to become acquainted with the local ingredients – no imports allowed – available for their feast. Resident staff will then show them the regional ropes, covering customs, the restaurant’s style and front of house, before the chefs set about devising inventive dinner menus featuring local delicacies. In addition to manning their stove, the visiting chef will infiltrate the personal life of their absentcounterpart, right down to living with their family, doing the school run and walking the dog.
Tickets (from €85)can be purchased in advance for a specific restaurant – such as Noma in Copenhagen (first picture), Sweden’s Fäviken Magasinet or the Plaza Athénée in Paris – but only on the day will the chef’s identity be revealed. Several venues sold out within minutes, but many tickets are still available, including for Miraflores in Lima, the wildly creative Boragó in Santiago and London’s Hibiscus.
For lovers of cuisine with an element of surprise, Gelinaz! is sure to be one of this summer’s most delicious tickets.
