This spring Cheltenham has a mouthwatering gastronomic pop-up imported from London. Taking place during the Cheltenham Festival races between March 10 and 13, it will see hotel group The Lucky Onion team up with Dorset-born, London-based chef Mark Hix, who is going to cook up a feast at No 38 The Park hotel, 10 minutes’ walk from the racecourse. From his brunch menu, racegoers will be able to enjoy dishes such as de Beauvoir smoked salmon with Burford brown scrambled eggs, or drop scones with Yorkshire rhubarb and crème fraîche. For the evening there is a truly decadent offering – Hix’s seven-course menu, for £90. Dishes include wild rabbit brawn with mustard and bittercress, Dorset blue lobster with ramson butter, and, to round it off, Furleigh Estate sparkling wine and Yorkshire rhubarb jelly with Jersey cream.
Alongside this, the hotel will be hosting a pop-up version of Hix’s London drinking hole Mark’s Bar, turning it into a quasi private members’ club. Here some of the bar’s signature cocktails will be served, such as a Hix Fix, with cherry eau de vie, English sparkling wine and a cherry, or, for a pick me up, the Red Snapper, made with Tanqueray No Ten gin, lemon juice, Mary mix, tomato juice and a celery heart.
Odds are on that it’ll be a feast to remember.
