We always knew we wanted to do something spectacular to celebrate How To Spend It’s 20th anniversary. Hosting a quartet of reader dinners with legendary chef Ferran Adrià – widely regarded as the most influential chef of his generation – seemed the perfect collaboration.
Before Adrià’s multi-award-winning restaurant elBulli closed its doors in 2011, 2m requests for only 8,000 places were turned down every year. So our anniversary dinners really are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Within 48 hours of announcing the four dinners (in London, Hong Kong, Geneva and New York), each had sold out, with long waiting lists. Our first, in London, attracted gastronomes from not only the UK but Sweden, Italy, Spain and Turkey. Only one sold-out event remains – in New York, with elBulli alumnus Daniel Humm at his three-Michelin-starred restaurant Eleven Madison Park. But we’ve just added an extra date at this ultra-sought-after venue – Wednesday October 22.
Ferran Adrià, Daniel Humm and How To Spend It editor Gillian de Bono will welcome guests to a champagne reception followed by a five-course, wine-paired, elBulli-inspired menu. And during the evening, Adrià will be regaling guests with his compelling approach to food, creativity and the constant need for innovation.
