Race to the bar

Savoy cocktails add some fizz to Goodwood’s glorious racing season

Glorious Goodwood, one of the social and sporting highlights of the summer, commences on Tuesday July 30 and those making the annual pilgrimage to the Sussex Downs can look forward to some top-quality liquid refreshments in the Richmond Enclosure. As part of Goodwood’s new partnership with Fairmont Hotels (owner of The Savoy in London, The Plaza in New York and The Peace in Shanghai), the main racecourse watering hole will now be the Trilogy Bar and will remain so not just for the Glorious week but right up until the end of the Goodwood racing season (Sunday October 13).

Erik Lorincz, head bartender at the American Bar in The Savoy, has devised some special new cocktails, including a Goodwood Punch (third picture) comprised of London Dry Gin, rhubarb, apple, elderflower and lemon juices and sugar syrup, garnished with a slice of cucumber and half a fresh strawberry, which will also be served at The Savoy for the duration of the season. His other offerings include The Grapefruitella – a non-alcoholic highball topped with an Amarena cherry – and a Burlington Bertie, which will be served at the pop-up American Bar in Lord March’s box and is vodka based with a dash of absinthe and egg white.
