Le Méridien Piccadilly is to host a free art masterclass on Tuesday August 20, hosted by the art collective Brush and Bubbles. Guests will sip Mirabeau rosé and indulge in Mediterranean small platters, before settling down to the serious business of painting. The class will take its inspiration from Henri Matisse.
The event will take place on the hotel’s Au Soleil Balcony, a spot filled with chic furniture and festooned with flowers to evoke the spirit of the Côte d’Azur – the area’s vivid beauty and colours inspired Matisse, co-founder of the fauvist movement, who spent a great deal of time in Nice during the 1920s. Here, guests will be invited to chill out, play a game of backgammon or sip on a bespoke cocktail (from £7) under the sun. Lunch can be ordered from the Au Soleil menu, which includes French classics such as Niçoise salad (£8), pissladiére (caramelised onions, tomato sauce, black olives and anchovies, £10) and croque monsieur (£12).
There will also be a selection of wines from Mirabeau, including the Pure, which has been described as “Provence in a glass”. For those who can’t make the date in August, a second masterclass will take place on Tuesday September 10.
