Sparkling times at Tramp, the famous London nightclub that has been frequented by anyone who is anyone and which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Fittingly, for such an auspicious occasion, the club is launching limited edition champagne and a special burger – in meat and vegetarian versions, garnished with 24ct gold leaf – from July 19.
“Over the years, we’ve served thousands of bottles of champagne to a glamorous clientele, including rock stars and royalty, and our 50th birthday seemed like the perfect time to offer that same experience to members of the public,” says David Fleming, the venue’s manager. “We’re excited about giving people the chance to taste a little bit of this magical club when they drink Tramp champagne.”
Among those who may be interested in indulging are past partygoers, including luminaries such as Joan Collins, Rod Stewart, members of the Rolling Stones and Michael Caine – who met his wife at the club. Two limited edition champagnes have been created in partnership with Eminent Wines: a Blanc de Blancs (£70 from the Tramp website delivered to your home, or £110 at the club) and a rosé (£80 delivered to your home, or £120 at the club). The Blanc de Blancs is made from grapes in the Montagne de Reims region, while the rosé combines Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes. There is also a Tramp Champagne Brut Cuvée (£55 delivered to your home, or £95 at the club).
To complement its bubbly, the club is stylising its burger – the combination of champagne and burger is very Tramp – in a nod to its origins. On opening, it offered 12 zodiac burgers in the Zodiac restaurant (formerly part of a Freemasons lodge), which is still going strong to this day. This year, the Tramp burger – boasting a secret sauce known only to its chef – will be topped with truffle and garnished with 24ct gold leaf, as will the vegetarian version, combining peach and portobello mushroom with a honey and truffle glaze (both burgers are priced £25).
“The burger has been a stalwart of Tramp’s menu for 50 years, and we are marking our golden year by giving our signature dish a golden makeover,” says Fleming. “A burger and fries with foie gras and a 24ct gold-leaf garnish perfectly sums up this club: glamorous and luxurious on the outside, but still down to earth and fun once you get inside.”
