Pairing stellar chef pop-ups with one-day cookery workshops, Hampshire’s luxurious yet laid-back Lime Wood hotel is offering gastronomic getaways to savour this summer.
Gill Meller and Steven Lamb of River Cottage will host on May 19 (£95 per person), with a menu drawing heavily on their trademark fresh, local offerings – everything from seafood to fungi to grains and dairy products – and featuring standout cured and smoked meats. The evening will take place in Lime Wood’s restaurant, Hartnett Holder & Co, whose Michelin-starred chef and partner Angela Hartnett will greet guests for a welcome drink.
Revealing the tricks behind their kitchen wizardry, Meller and Lamb will run a cookery course in Lime Wood’s state-of-the-art kitchens on May 20 (£260 per person), including demonstrations and discussions about ingredients. This will be followed by lunch with the chefs, and students will also receive culinary souvenirs including a recipe set, signed cookbooks and a Hartnett Holder & Co apron.
Skye Gyngell of Spring (and previously Petersham Nurseries) will host the next pop-up, on July 28 (with her cookery course on July 29), bringing an Aussie-infused menu packed with her favourite seasonal ingredients from Fern Varrow, a biodynamic farm in Herefordshire. Earthy, vibrant flavours will take centre stage in dishes that will adhere to Gyngell’s gastronomic philosophy: “Don’t mess with good ingredients, just turn the volume up!”
