Rodman Primack, Design Miami chief creative officer “The most delicious – and calorific – vegetarian meal I’ve ever had was at Nix. Its menus are all vegetable based, and I sampled everything from steamed buns with tempura cauliflower and a spicy vinegar sauce, to an egg salad with paper-thin shards of potato, mustard seeds and pickles. The tandoor bread with hummus and spiced eggplant dips were excellent as well, and the atmosphere is super-inviting – all‑white, Danish modern, with candles and soft lighting.” 72 University Place, NY 10003 (+1212-498 9393; www.nixny.com).

Larry Gagosian, gallerist “Masa is one of the best restaurants in the world. The setting and the food are fantastic; chef Masa’s cuisine is always varied – he’ll have a little langoustine, a mushroom risotto, some delicious Wagyu with truffles – and it is this unexpected mix that makes the restaurant so exciting. The sushi is also beyond spectacular.” 10 Columbus Circle, NY 10019 (+1212-823 9800; www.masanyc.com).

Raphael Sauleau, CEO of yachting company Fraser “For an outstanding wine list, head to Le Bernardin in Midtown. As a Frenchman, I am biased towards the Château Cheval Blanc. I also particularly love the truffle lobster pasta. I often take my company’s bankers here for lunch.” 155 West 51st Street, NY 10019 (+1212-554 1515; www.le-bernardin.com).

Francesca Amfitheatrof, former design director at Tiffany & Co “Cosme in the Flatiron District is an incredible contemporary Mexican restaurant, the first to be opened by young Mexican chef Enrique Olvera. The architecture is quite rigorous, the décor serene and calming, in warm earthy colours and tones. The lighting is on the dark side and the staff super helpful. I took a Mexican friend and it got the seal of approval. I ate a corn tortilla with chopped tomatoes and sea urchin.” 35 East 21st Street, NY 10010 (+1212-913 9659; www.cosmenyc.com).

Joseph Sitt, president and CEO of Thor Equities “I love the brick-oven pizzas at Lucali in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. This place has a casual, cosy atmosphere and an authentic menu. Its open kitchen and vibrant energy appeal to my taste for theatre; it’s great entertainment.” 575 Henry Street, NY 11231 (+1718-858 4086; www.lucali.com).
