With their brightly hued graphic packaging and unusual flavours such as maple and smoke, the stylish bars by Mast Brothers have cornered the market in upmarket chocolates. This year the Brooklyn-based brand, which has a store on east London’s Redchurch Street, is collaborating with the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green to bring a chocolate-infused Christmas to guests.
Those looking for a tipple at the hotel’s bar, Peg + Patriot, will from Monday December 12 be able to enjoy a chocolate cocktail (£9), or for a more family friendly version, complimentary hot chocolate will be served in the lobby, while a bespoke chocolate bar (£3.50) – roasted Madagascan cacao with buttermilk, whole vanilla beans and star anise, sprinkled with vanilla-infused sea salt, and wrapped in photographic papers with interior details from the hotel –will be available to buy in lobby shop O’Dell’s. A pop-up sampling station will also offer a range of bitesized delights for visitors to try.
The hotel wanted to draw on local artisans for the festive season and as well as the bean-to-bar company has asked Hackney-based florists Grace & Thorn to decorate the venue with its whimsical arrangements and hold a wreath-making class (£100), which takes place on Thursday December 8 and includes a two-course lunch in the hotel’s Corner Room restaurant.
