My friends and family add incredible colour to my life, as do humour, music, dance, art, nature, travel, film and reading a script – they all make each day so interesting. First and foremost I’m an actor, but I have so many other roles and interests that shape and inform who I am. As well as modelling and being an ambassador for ocean conservation, I love designing and making my own accessories and clothing.
My grandparents were really important to me. My grandmother was an incredibly chic woman and I always admired her style. She said that one day she would give me a beautiful Chanel bag, which I inherited when she passed away. I’ve always treasured it, even before she gave it to me. I also inherited a wonderful blue china set from my grandparents, which I love. Family are really important to me and heirlooms have become a big part of my home. As well as the china service and my grandmother’s bag, my favourite and most colourful things in my house are paintings by my father, Alex Uxbridge. I have never used an interior designer – I just add things myself over the years, so my home has become a real mix of old and new.
I think this is why I’m so drawn to the Heritage Collection by Fabergé. The pieces play to my taste for modern and classic, and their timeless appeal means they’re also perfect to hand down to the next generation one day. At the moment, I love stacking bracelets – this collection is ideal for that. But for a formal event, perhaps on the red carpet, I would wear the earrings and bracelet together for a more dramatic look – showcasing the beautiful, eye-catching turquoise enamel, diamonds and gold detailing to full effect.
I love the spring, when the flowers are blooming and the bees come out. It’s life-affirming to watch them pollinate the new blossom in all their black-and-gold glory. Bees are so regal – perhaps reflecting their importance to the health of our planet. But summer is my favourite season. I’m definitely a sun-worshipper – it makes me feel happier, healthier, brighter and more active.
I see beauty in everyday, routine things – I like normality. If I have time, I will always walk when I’m in London. I’ll put on a good album and listen to it as I make my way around the city. You can go through the West End and see the green of the parks – St James’s, Green Park, Hyde Park – then come across the gothic glamour of the Albert Memorial with its striking red, gold and black. The possibilities of what you might see around London are endless. You just have to stay curious.
I think that because I love the everyday, I also prefer natural lighting, especially if we’re shooting during the “golden hour” – the first or last hour of sunlight in a day. Maybe this is why I also love an incredibly charismatic photograph of my late grandfather. He’s indoors, framed by a very 1970s tablecloth and wallpaper, and his expression is so animated – as if he’s about to launch into telling a story. Another favourite picture of mine is of Es Vedrà, a small rocky island off Ibiza. It’s reputed to be one of the most magnetic spots on earth and I keep the photo on the mantelpiece in my bedroom. I like to think it gives me good energy when I wake up in the morning.
Looking ahead, I’m hoping for – and working towards – a greener future. We all need to start taking greater care of our beautiful, fragile, colour-filled planet. I’d love to start my own family soon and I want my children to be able to experience and enjoy the natural beauty of the world as I did during my own childhood.
