High-tech hygge

Settle down with Bang & Olufsen’s stunning simplicity

As the nights draw in and we feather our nests for the dark months ahead, the Danes can teach us a thing or two about making ourselves cosy. For decades their design aesthetic has been a byword for great taste, blending comfort with simplicity and making a home into a welcoming sanctuary whatever the weather. They have a word for it: literally hygge (or cosiness).

Their distinctive “functional minimalism” may have its roots in the modernism of the 1950s, but it has adapted as our lifestyles have evolved. One of Denmark’s best-known brands, Bang & Olufsen, has consistently created home entertainment systems that resemble statement pieces of designer furniture – embracing new technologies and features while removing their complexity. This luxurious simplicity is the essence of hygge.

As our homes become fluid spaces that serve multiple functions, every room in our house deserves the hygge treatment. In an always-on world, we want a TV that allows us to settle down to a blockbuster movie or binge on a box-set with immersive sound and exceptional picture quality in any room in the house. And we need the option of entertaining friends and family in front of an elegant, high-definition screen that can be moved or stowed away when it’s not needed.

“Our homes are more dynamic and flexible than ever. We like to be free and embrace the idea of being less dependent on things. It’s that state of mind we want to address,” explains Marie Kristine Schmidt, Bang & Olufsen’s vice president of brand, design and marketing, who oversees the company’s overall concept and design.

The new BeoVision Horizon is a sleek and intuitive state-of-the-art TV designed for almost every space in your home. Enjoy sporting events on the terrace or balcony, news broadcasts by the breakfast table or even horror stories in your bedroom.

The antiglare panel has a foil coating to reduce reflections, the Automatic Picture Control sensor lessens eye fatigue, and even the ergonomic, Bluetooth-enabled BeoRemote is simplicity itself, as you don’t need to point it at a particular part of the screen. There’s no need for an additional soundbar, but you can enjoy even more amazing high-quality sound in any cosy corner of your home by pairing the BeoVision Horizon with Bang & Olufsen’s wireless speakers, to create a BeoLink Multiroom setup.

The BeoVision Horizon is powered by the ever-evolving Android platform, Google Cast is integrated and you can easily stream your music from Deezer and Spotify. There’s even a space at the back to stow away your smaller set-top boxes to ensure the sleek design is clutter-free. Bang & Olufsen has thought of everything, leaving you to just kick back, curl up and enjoy your screen time from any part of your domestic nest – hygge heaven.
