If time is too short for a spa trip to a far-flung destination but a physical and emotional reset is much needed, the COMO Metropolitan London’s COMO Shambhala spa in Park Lane has the antidote: a weekend “Vacation for the Soul”.
The course, led by Per van Spall, a certified master in the art of Qi Gong healing – a branch of traditional Chinese medicine that is designed to unblock, free and balance “chi” – teaches guests how to deepen the connection between mind and body, and identifies practical methods of dealing with life’s day-to-day challenges – whether physical or emotional. It takes place from Saturday October 6 to Sunday 7 and is £475 per person or £809 for a one-night stay in a Deluxe City Room with breakfast.
The course begins on Saturday with a 10am meet-and-greet, followed by Qi Gong exercises and meditation designed to prepare guests for the day ahead, and a group session by van Spall who will impart his wisdom before lunch.
Once sated, each guest will be offered an hour-long session with the wellness guru to intuitively locate and reduce mental, emotional and physical blockages in the body – which are said to contribute to stress, instability, fatigue and health ailments. Meditation, contemplation or a COMO Shambhala treatment is also on the schedule, before a 4.30pm Tai Chi session and a closing talk, which wraps up at 6.30pm.
Sunday’s sessions will follow a similar format with time set aside to talk to van Spall. Private classes (£250 per person) will also be available from October 1 to 14 at the hotel spa for those who can’t attend the weekend workshop.
