Paul Smith’s imagination has long stretched beyond the catwalk and next month he is turning his attention to pencils. He and almost 50 creatives – including David Bailey, Quentin Blake, Philippe Starck, Tom Dixon and John Pawson – have donated their favourite pencils to be photographed in aid of Children in Crisis, which works in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Liberia to provide children with education.

The resulting photographic prints will feature – together with some of the pencils – in an exhibition at Smith’s Mayfair store, with iPads there for people to bid on a selection of these illustrious items via an online auction hosted by Paddle8. All of the funds raised will benefit the charity.
