Cashmere specialist Johnstons of Elgin has teamed up with the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) on a capsule collection of blankets. Five QEST textile scholars were invited to visit the Johnstons mills in Elgin and Hawick and to collaborate with its design team on a collection to coincide with the trust’s 25th anniversary.
The five limited-edition styles are 100 per cent cashmere with fringed edges and come in a palette of blues, pinks and purples, such as Kim Norrie’s chic inky and sky-blue slim-striped design. Twenty per cent of the sale price goes to QEST, which funds the education of talented British craftspeople. “Retaining and developing critical textile skills is at the core of Johnstons of Elgin,” says communications manager and board member Jenny Houldsworth, “and there are clear synergies with QEST’s long-term commitment to craftsmanship in Britain.”
