Beverly Hills jeweller Robert Procop works with the big guns: every president of the US since Ronald Reagan has commissioned his work, and his specialist knowledge of gemstones makes him a trusted, go-to jeweller for a demanding international clientele. But it’s his work for and with Angelina Jolie that’s really brought his name to the fore in recent times. Not only did he co-design Jolie’s stunning diamond engagement ring with Brad Pitt, but he has collaborated with the Oscar-winning actress on the Style of Jolie collection, which she herself has showcased both on and off the red carpet – and which is sold in aid of her charitable foundation, the Education Partnership for Children of Conflict.
Usually, the jewels are only available to view by private appointment, but from July 15 to August 15 2012 two pop-ups in the south of France will between them display the whole range. The bulk of the collection will go on show at the Grand-Hôtel in Cap Ferrat, while the Hôtel de Paris in Monaco will have some pieces and launches with a reception on July 15.
The superb pieces include “Exceptional Jewels”, such as the utterly desirable Angelina Jolie Exceptional emerald necklace (pictured), which has 44 of Jolie’s favourite gems – cushion cut and some of them classified as rare “vivid green” – with a total weight of 103.48ct in 18ct yellow gold. Then there are the remarkable, one-off, handmade Jolie Pear-Shape emerald earrings in rolled tubular rose gold.
With gems this rare, it would be crazy to “overdesign” and, indeed, Jolie – who was heavily involved in all the designs, and whose passion for the project and its cause is obvious – says of the collection: “By making the gemstone the main focus of the design, we feel the simplicity of each piece becomes timeless.”
If you like your gems with a narrative, the gorgeous green beryl Tablet earrings – 67.74ct in total, and almost aquamarine in colour – come with at least two: they were worn by Jolie to the premiere of The Tourist, and ancient engravings inspired Jolie and Procop to create a tablet-faceted pendant with a secret engraved message for Pitt, which in turn inspired the Tablet collection of jewels. Or there is the dramatically simple Premiere black faceted necklace of 47 black spinels (74.35ct) in rose gold – the first jewelled necklace to be created by Jolie and Procop – which Jolie wore to the premiere of her film Salt.
While Procop will be present throughout the showcases, it is very likely that both Jolie and Pitt will show their faces too – though no dates have been confirmed. When they do, it will make for a dazzling event in more ways than one.
